INTERSECTIONS

an art event activating Berkeley pathways

surrounding Live Oak and Codornices Parks

with Site Specific Installations

SEPTEMBER 1-30 2020 | BERKELEY CA

Intersections exist across space and time, both internal and external. They are literal points of geographic connection, such as the place where one street meets another, as well as metaphysical manifestations of how we view ourselves in the world. They are part of collective public life and expressions of individual difference.

Over 120 paths and walkways blanket Berkeley. These spaces have historic and cultural relevance, are routes for egress in disaster, and are points of connection between neighborhoods.

In September 2020 several of the paths surrounding Live Oak and Cordornices Parks will be activated with site-specific, temporary art installations created by a group of artists with ties to Berkeley. We’ll offer guided tours and artists talks throughout the month long event.

Installations will explore the concept of Intersection—how things connect and come together in this community—with the paths as canvas.

The project is produced by Berkeley Path Wanderers Association in partnership with creative consultancy PEAK86. It is fiscally sponsored by Berkeley Partners for Parks and funded by grants from Berkeley Civic Arts, Harnisch Foundation’s Awesome Without Borders, and the Berkeley community.
